Modernizing a Transportation Management Platform into a Cloud-Native SaaS Solution

Modernizing a Transportation Management Platform into a Cloud-Native SaaS Solution

Transforming a heavily customized on-premise product into a scalable cloud platform that is easier to deploy, maintain, and continuously evolve.

The Problem

A successful logistics platform held back by complex installations and client-specific versions

EBE's transportation management platform had evolved through years of customer-specific implementations. Each new client required a lengthy installation and significant customization, while deploying updates across different environments became increasingly difficult.

  • Lengthy installation and onboarding process for every new customer
  • Extensive client-specific customizations creating multiple product variations
  • Complex deployment of fixes, features, and new product versions
  • Customers operating on outdated versions of the platform
  • Data dispersed across different parts of the system
  • An unintuitive user interface causing frustration during daily operations
  • Limited mobile usability for users working away from their desks
The Solution

Rebuilding the product around a unified cloud-native SaaS architecture

Symmetria partnered with EBE to modernize the platform from the ground up. The system was redesigned as a cloud-native SaaS product running on Azure and Kubernetes, replacing fragmented customer-specific versions with a single continuously evolving platform. Clearly defined microservices established boundaries between business domains, while a complete UX redesign made everyday workflows more intuitive across desktop and mobile devices.

  1. Unified SaaS product

Replaced separate client-specific installations with a single SaaS product. Shared functionality and configurable features reduced the need for custom code while ensuring that every customer could use the latest version.

  2. Domain-based microservices

Separated the platform into clearly defined business domains with independent responsibilities. Services exchange data through stable contracts, reducing coupling and creating a more maintainable foundation for future development.

  3. Cloud deployment with Kubernetes

Moved the platform to Azure and Kubernetes, simplifying deployments and enabling new versions, fixes, and features to be delivered consistently without upgrading each customer environment separately.

  4. Centralized and connected data

Introduced clear ownership and exchange of data between system domains, replacing fragmented information flows with consistent contracts and more reliable access to operational data.

  5. Complete desktop and mobile redesign

Redesigned the entire user interface around real operational workflows. The new responsive experience reduced friction and gave day-to-day users a faster, clearer, and more fluid way to work on both desktop and mobile devices.
